FA Charges Nottingham Forest Owner Marinakis with Misconduct
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA) on Thursday, 3 October, following his actions after his club’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham.
The FA has accused Marinakis of behaving improperly near the City Ground tunnel in Nottinghamshire, England, after the match on Saturday, 28 September, as Forest’s unbeaten start to the English Premier League (EPL) season ended.
Fulham secured the win through a second-half penalty, converted by Raul Jimenez after a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) review. The decision was reached when referee Josh Smith, prompted by the VAR, determined that Forest defender Murillo had fouled Fulham’s Andreas Pereira.
The home side’s frustrations only grew when further VAR reviews went against them, with penalty claims involving Anthony Elanga and Taiwo Awoniyi being denied. A first-half goal by forward Chris Wood was also disallowed for offside.
Marinakis has been given until Monday, 7 October, to respond to the FA’s charge. This incident follows previous concerns expressed by Forest regarding VAR decisions in earlier matches, notably after their April defeat to Everton.
Nottingham Forest, currently 10th in the EPL table, will next face Chelsea over the weekend as they aim to bounce back from the disappointing loss.
